Help for Surviving Spouses

The death of a spouse can happen at any age and can be one of life’s most stressful events. Each situation is different and can provide its own unique challenges.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has information and resources that can help. Not knowing what needs to be done, or what is top priority can add additional worries. One tool available through CFPB is a financial step-by-step guide for the surviving spouse. The document found HERE provides a guidance such as:

  • A financial checklist
  • Bills worksheet
  • Important documents to gather
  • Where to find help
  • And more

There are additional resources HERE that include topics such as unknown debt and help with housing decisions.

We can never be fully prepared for such a loss.  However, having documents in order and equipping both spouses with financial information can help the process go more smoothly.  CFPB has provided a few tips HERE to help you get started.

If you would like to plan so you are prepared, I can help.  We can create a budget, discuss important documents, and determine if additional financial goals are needed.
